Pharmacovigilance programme for Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani drugs

Abstract
It is popular perception prevailing throughout the globe that, the traditional practises (let it be Ayurveda, Siddha or Unani) doesn’t produce any adverse effects. The utilization of these drugs since thousand of years itself supports this notion. But, in present scenario, increased globalization of these practises has raised concerns about their safety and efficacy, which created doubts on Indian heritage. To tackle these concerns, a system like pharmacovigilence is needed to be established. Considering this, Dept. of Ayush, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi launched pharmacovigilence programme for ASU Drugs and announced estalishment of a national pharmacovigilence Resource Centre at IPGT & RA, Jamnagar which will look after drug related inconvieniences of traditional practises. The present article will provide a brief out look of the programme since inception.
