Abstract
Pippali (Piper longum) is a well known plant used in many home remedies as well as in ayurvedic formulations. Nowadays, the root of pippali is not easily available in the market; the stem cutting of P. longum is marketed as substitute. This work is an attempt to establish its preliminary pharmacognostical and physico and phyto-chemical standards which can be further compared with available standards of pippalimula (Piper longum root).
