Abstract
A clinical study to evaluate the contraceptive effect of neem oil in healthy married women who is having one child and desire to postpone another pregnancy, was conducted in Regional Research Institute , Poojapura, Trivandruam under C.C.R.A.S , new Delhi with the support of the Departement of Prasotha Thanthra, Govt. Ayurveda College , Trivandram 205 healthy women who fulfilled the selection criteria were selected for trial and given the medicine. A period of one year (12 cycles) was fixed to assess the effect of the trial drug in each case. Subject were advised to induce Nimba thila in the vaginal canal using a filler before every coitus. Out of selected 205 cases , 51 cases were completed the trial period successfully. 154 cases used the trial medicine but not completed the full trial period of 12 cycles due to varying reasons. These cases were also taken for assessment as they are successfully avert pregnancy as long as the trial drug is being used. Only one case reported pregnancy due to drug failure and another one become pregnant due to drug omission while using the trial medicine. The overall result is encouraging.
