Pharmacological Activities Of Sivanar Amirtham – A Siddha Preparation

Abstract
Sivanar amirtham, is a combination of eight ingredients have long since been used as antiarthritic in Siddha medicine. The drug was screened for anti-inflammatory, antiarthritic and analgesic activities in different suitable pharmacological experimental models. The study confirmed the anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and analgesic properties of Sivanar amirtham claimed in the Siddha medicine by orally treating to rats. Sivanar amirtham showed significant anti-inflammatory activity at the doses of 50,100,200 and 500 mg/kg, orally. The analgesic study with acetic acid induced writhing episode on albino mice produced significant analgesia in the dose of 50,100,200 and 500 mg/kg, orally. By using analgesic response using hot plate Sivanar amirtham showed significant analgesia at the doses of 50,100,200 and 500 mg/kg, orally.
